Sabres 6, Jets 5 (OT)
Thomas Vanek scored on the power play at the 4:35 mark of overtime to give the Buffalo Sabres a 6-5 victory over the visiting Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday.
Vanek tallied twice and Derek Roy and Jason Pominville each recorded three points for the Sabres, who have won three straight.
Winnipeg right wing Blake Wheeler was called for a tripping penalty late in overtime, giving Buffalo the 4-on-3 opportunity. Pominville blasted a shot from the left faceoff circle and it glanced off Vanek’s skate and past Ondrej Pavelec for the game-winner.
The Jets were clinging to a 5-4 lead into the back half of the third period, when Mark Stuart was called for a roughing penalty on Roy after the play was over. That gave the Sabres a 5-on-3 power play for 1:17.
Roy got his revenge just a few seconds later, taking a cross-ice feed from Pominville and blasting a one-timer past Pavelec to knot it at 5-5.
Winnipeg jumped on top in the first period with two quick goals, but Buffalo bounced by scoring twice within 11 seconds to make it 2-2.
