Devils 3, Hurricanes 2
Adam Henrique scored on a wraparound with 3:19 remaining in the game as the New Jersey Devils defeated the visiting Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 on Tuesday for their third straight victory.
Henrique, who netted an overtime goal against Winnipeg on Saturday, gained the puck to the right of Carolina goalie Cam Ward and swept around the net to stuff it inside the right post. Henrique has four goals in his last three games.
Dainius Zubrus, who assisted on Henrique’s winner, scored his fourth goal of the season in the second period and registered his 500th career point in his 996th game.
Petr Sykora put the Devils ahead 2-1 just 2:37 into the third, whipping a shot past Ward after a faceoff win by Patrik Elias. Elias recorded two assists and has points in 11 of his last 12 games.
Defenseman Joni Pitkanen tied the game 2-2 for Hurricanes when his centering feed went in off Henrique’s stick at 6:06.
Brandon Sutter had put the Hurricanes ahead 1-0 at 9:27 of the first period with his second shorthanded goal of the season.
New Jersey killed two Carolina power plays, improving to 26-for-26 at home.
All-Star forward Ilya Kovalchuk missed his second straight game with a lower-body injury.
