Blues 3, Blackhawks 0

Jaroslav Halak made 29 saves for his first shutout of the season and T.J. Oshie recorded a goal and an assist as the St. Louis Blues gave Ken Hitchcock his first win as the team's new coach with a 3-0 victory over the visiting Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday.

Vladimir Sobotka and Chris Stewart tallied while Kevin Shattenkirk and Barret Jackman each recorded a pair of assists for the Blues.

Hitchcock was introduced as St. Louis’ new coach on Monday after Davis Payne was dismissed. Hitchcock’s first order of business was to fix a power play that ranked last in the NHL.

The Blues converted one of their two opportunities with the man-advantage against the Blackhawks. Stewart tipped in Oshie’s shot for his third goal at the 1:23 mark of the second.

Halak came in just 1-6-0 on the season but was sharp on Tuesday, especially during a third period in which he turned aside 12 shots. It was the 26-year-old’s 17th career shutout.

Corey Crawford made 20 saves for Chicago, which has dropped three straight.
