Avalanche 4, Islanders 3 (OT)
Kyle Quincey scored at 2:39 of overtime and Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 30 saves, including a game-saving stop with 1 second left in regulation, as the host Colorado Avalanche rallied from a three-goal deficit to defeat the visiting New York Islanders 4-3 on Thursday.
Giguere denied Calder Trophy finalist Michael Grabner on the doorstep to send the game into overtime and also denied Grabner on two breakaways.
Paul Stastny, Milan Hejduk and defenseman Jan Hejda also scored for Colorado (8-7-1), which snapped a four-game losing streak and improved to 2-6-0 at home.
Giguere also became the 55th goaltender in NHL history to play 30,000 minutes.
Josh Bailey, Brian Rolston and Grabner scored for the Islanders (4-6-3), who fell to 0-3-2 on the road and had their four-game winning streak against Colorado stopped.
Hejda’s first goal with the Avalanche tied the game 3-3 with 9:25 left in the third period when he beat Al Montoya with a slap shot from near the left point.
Montoya finished with 47 stops, including a breakaway save on Matt Duchene in overtime.
