Canucks 3, Kings 2
Roberto Luongo made 28 saves and the Vancouver Canucks scored twice on the power play en route to a 3-2 victory over the host Los Angeles Kings on Thursday.
Sami Salo, Andrew Ebbett and Aaron Rome each tallied in the first period for the Canucks, who improved to 3-2-0 five games into a six-game road trip. They finish up at Anaheim on Friday.
Luongo made 38 saves in a win at Chicago on Sunday and carried that momentum to Los Angeles. The Montreal native only faced three shots in the first period but fended off 11 in the second and 14 in the third.
Vancouver did most of its damage offensively during one 5-on-3 power play in the first. Salo struck first, blasting his fourth goal on a slap shot from the right point.
Down to a 5-on-4 advantage after Salo’s tally, the Canucks scored again 42 seconds later when Ebbert sent a centering pass toward the crease that glanced off the skate of Kings defenseman Willie Mitchell and into the net. It was the first tally of the season for the seldom-used center.
Rome’s goal later in the first proved to be the game-winner.
Drew Doughty and Mike Richards scored for Los Angeles, which has lost six of seven.
