Sabres 5, Senators 1

Derek Roy stayed hot with a goal and two assists and goaltender Jhonas Enroth remained unbeaten this season as the Buffalo Sabres cruised to a 5-1 victory over the visiting Ottawa Senators on Friday.

Roy has four goals in the last three games and eight points in his last four for the Sabres, who have won four straight. Drew Stafford added three assists.

Enroth made 36 saves to improve to 5-0-0 on the campaign.

Ottawa, which had a 37-21 edge in shots, has lost five straight overall and six consecutive games to the Sabres.

The Sabres ended Ottawa goaltender Craig Anderson’s night quickly. Roy popped in the rebound of a Stafford shot at 2:09 and Matt Ellis scored his first of the season just 16 seconds later. Anderson made four saves on six shots and was replaced by Alex Auld.

Veteran defenseman Sergei Gonchar recorded his first goal of the season, just after a 5-on-3 power play ended for the Senators to cut the lead in half 4:38 into the first period.

Jordan Leopold knocked home Stafford’s backhand pass, giving Buffalo a 3-1 lead with 5:20 left in the first.

Ottawa captain Daniel Alfredsson was back in the lineup after missing the last six games with concussion symptoms.
