Canadiens 2, Predators 1 (OT)
Max Pacioretty scored 2:31 into overtime as the Montreal Canadiens spoiled Nashville coach Barry Trotz's 1,000th game behind the bench with a 2-1 triumph over the host Predators on Saturday.
Peter Budaj made his second start of the season and turned aside 25 shots and David Desharnais collected his third goal as Montreal won its second in a row.
In overtime, defenseman P.K. Subban found Pacioretty in the left faceoff circle. The Connecticut native measured his shot and wristed it past Vezina Trophy finalist Pekka Rinne and just inside the left post for his seventh goal of the season and third in four games.
Montreal opened the scoring after Erik Cole found a streaking Desharnais, who backhanded the puck past Rinne with 6:11 remaining in the first period.
With his team shorthanded, captain Shea Weber leveled the contest after unleashing a blast past Budaj at 3:20 of the second period.
Rinne suffered his first loss since being granted a seven-year, $49 million contract extension on Nov. 3. He finished with 23 saves for Nashville, which fell to 5-1-2 in its last eight games.
Trotz joined current Buffalo Sabres head man Lindy Ruff as well as Al Arbour and Billy Reay as the only coaches to reach quadruple digits with one team.
