Jets 4, Capitals 1
Evander Kane scored twice and the Winnipeg Jets struck three times in a span of 4:16 during the second period to cruise past the visiting Washington Capitals 4-1 Thursday night.
Kane's second multi-goal effort of the season gave the Jets their second consecutive victory while handing the Capitals their third straight defeat. Washington has scored just four goals during the skid.
With the score tied after 20 minutes, Kane's second of the night gave his club a 2-1 lead early in the second period. Blake Wheeler extended the advantage with a power-play marker for his first goal of the season.
Kyle Wellwood made it 4-1 midway through the period, converting an Andrew Ladd pass from in close with Washington's Roman Hamrlik in the penalty box.
Ondrej Pavelec turned aside 31 shots in the victory and has now surrendered just three goals in his last six appearances against the Capitals dating back to last season.
Alexander Semin put Washington on the board 3:53 into the first period, finishing off a 3-on-2 by waiting out Pavelec before firing the puck past the Winnipeg netminder.
Kane knotted things four minutes later, snapping home a wrist shot from the slot that eluded Washington netminder Michal Neuvirth.
