Coyotes 4, Sabres 2


Radim Vrbata scored two goals to lift the visiting Phoenix Coyotes to a 4-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday night.

Mike Smith turned aside 43 shots as the Coyotes snapped a five-game losing streak against the Sabres and improved to 10-0 when leading after two periods.

Paul Bissonnette and captain Shane Doane also tallied for Phoenix, which improved to 8-2-2 in its last 12 games.

Bissonnette notched the game-winning goal at 9:41 of the second period for his first point of the season and his first goal since Feb. 1.

Luke Adam and Patrick Kaleta scored goals and Jordan Leopold had two assists as the Sabres fell to 4-6 at First Niagara Center this season.

Doan opening the scoring by beating Jonas Enroth with a slapper at 7:09 of the first period. Adam answered for Buffalo just under five minutes later, deflecting a shot past Smith.

Kaleta connected in the first minute of the second to put Buffalo back on top, but Vrbata tallied at 8:35 and Bissonnette slipped a puck past a sliding Enroth 66 seconds later.

Phoenix's Rostislav Klesla had to be helped to the locker room after taking a shot off his head in the third period. Coyotes winger Taylor Pyatt appeared in his 700th career game.
