Panthers 4, Devils 3
Tomas Fleischmann scored with 2:03 remaining in the third period as the Florida Panthers spoiled former coach Peter DeBoer's return with a 4-3 comeback victory over the visiting New Jersey Devils on Monday.
Stephen Weiss recorded his third three-point performance in four games with a goal and two assists, Kris Versteeg scored twice and defensemen Jason Garrison and Dmitry Kulikov had two assists apiece for Florida, which improved to 6-2-3 in its last 11 games.
After tying the game with a shorthanded goal at 9:12 of the third, Weiss dished the puck from the right corner to Fleischmann, who drifted from alone in the slot to his left and waited for Martin Brodeur to commit before netting his ninth goal of the season.
New Jersey jumped out to a 3-0 lead as Ilya Kovalchuk, Petr Sykora and Dainius Zubrus scored in a 3:32 span midway through the first period. Versteeg tallied twice in the second to get Florida within one, and Weiss beat Brodeur high to the glove side during a shorthanded breakaway to forge a 3-3 tie.
Defenseman Andy Greene notched two assists and Brodeur made 32 saves for the Devils, who completed a 3-2-0 road trip as DeBoer fell to the team he coached the previous three seasons.
