Canadiens 4, Hurricanes 3 (SO)
Travis Moen tied the game early in the third period and captain Brian Gionta scored the lone goal of the shootout as the Montreal Canadiens posted a 4-3 road victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday.
Lars Eller had a goal and an assist, Mike Cammalleri also tallied and Carey Price made 30 saves for Montreal, which has won five of its last six meetings with Carolina.
After the Canadiens battled back from a 2-0 deficit, Brandon Sutter put the Hurricanes back in front at 3:18 of the third. Moen answered 79 seconds later, and Gionta slid the puck around Cam Ward's left pad in the third round of the shootout to give Montreal the edge.
Price sealed the Canadiens' fifth win in seven road games by denying Jussi Jokinen on Carolina's final attempt.
The Hurricanes, who have lost eight of 11 overall and five of seven at home, scored on two of their first three shots of the game to take an early lead. Jiri Tlusty recorded his third goal just 34 seconds into the contest and Anthony Stewart converted a feed from Tim Brent at the six-minute mark.
Eller scored a shorthander in the second period and Cammalleri tallied 27 seconds into the third to forge a tie.
