Flyers 3, Canadiens 1
Claude Giroux scored twice for his second multi-goal effort in six games as the Philadelphia Flyers used a spirited second-period surge to breeze to a 3-1 home triumph over the Montreal Canadiens on Friday.
Jakub Voracek collected a goal and an assist and defenseman Braydon Coburn notched a pair of assists for Philadelphia, which netted all three of its goals and outshot Montreal by an 18-5 margin during the middle session.
The offensive explosion was more than enough for Sergei Bobrovsky, who turned aside 23 shots as the Flyers improved to 8-3-2 since dropping a 5-1 decision to the Canadiens on Oct. 26.
After Petteri Nokelainen opened the scoring with his first goal of the season, Giroux leveled the contest with 6:49 remaining in the second period. Giroux won the faceoff in the offensive end and accepted defenseman Matt Carle's feed before wristing a shot past Carey Price.
Voracek gave Philadelphia the lead over 4 1/2 minutes later and Giroux provided insurance with his team-leading 13th goal - and 10th point in six games. The tally came with six seconds to play in the session and put Montreal on its heels.
Giroux collected a loose puck after Canadiens defenseman Josh Gorges blocked Coburn's shot and blasted it past Price to send the Wells Fargo Center into a frenzy.
