Sharks 4, Canadiens 3 (SO)
Ryane Clowe scored to tie the game with 1:26 remaining in regulation and Joe Pavelski netted the clincher in the sixth round of the shootout as the San Jose Sharks posted a 4-3 win over the visiting Montreal Canadiens on Thursday.
Logan Couture added a goal and an assist and Antti Niemi made 29 saves in regulation and overtime for the Sharks, who ended a modest two-game slide.
Martin Havlat scored in the second round of the shootout but captain Brian Gionta matched it in the third to keep the game going. Michal Handzus and David Desharnais traded tallies in the fourth round. Pavelski would get his chance in the sixth, using a hesitation move to freeze Carey Price and then firing a wrist shot between the pads.
Niemi stopped defenseman P.K. Subban on the other end, giving San Jose the victory.
With an extra skater on the ice, the Sharks tied it at 3-3 as Clowe caught the bouncing rebound of Havlat’s wrister and lifted it from the doorstep over Price’s shoulder.
Desharnais recorded a goal and two assists and Michael Cammalleri and Erik Cole each finished with two points for Montreal, which has dropped four straight.
