Flyers 4, Coyotes 2

Rookie Matt Read collected a goal and two assists as the Philadelphia Flyers scored four times in the first period and cruised to a 4-2 road victory over the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday.

Claude Giroux netted his team-leading 15th goal - and fourth in as many games - while Scott Hartnell and Wayne Simmonds also tallied as Philadelphia recorded its fourth win in five contests and improved to 9-3-1 on the road this season.

The early offense was more than enough for Ilya Bryzgalov, who turned aside 36 shots to defeat his former team for the second time this season.

Signed to a nine-year, $51 million deal in the offseason, the 31-year-old Russian made 30 saves in the Flyers' 2-1 triumph over the Coyotes on Nov. 17.

Read, who netted the game-winner with 18.8 seconds remaining in that contest, opened the scoring at 4:23 of the first period. The rookie collected a fortunate bounce off the glass and wristed the puck past Mike Smith for his 10th goal of the season.

Simmonds doubled the advantage just 98 seconds later after cleaning up a rebound off Danny Briere's shot. Giroux and Hartnell tallied 2:16 apart late in the session.

Ray Whitney netted his ninth goal of the season and Mikkel Boedker also tallied, but the Coyotes couldn't overcome the early deficit and suffered their second straight setback.
