Senators 4, Lightning 2

Zach Smith scored twice and Nick Foligno converted the game-winner as the Ottawa Senators prevailed 4-2 over the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday night.

With the 1991-92 expansion cousins tied late, Foligno put the Senators ahead for the first time in the game at 15:44 of the third period. The forward knocked in a rebound of a wraparound attempt for his seventh point in the past six games.

Smith put the game out of reach just 46 seconds later, breaking down the right wing and whistling a wrist shot past Tampa Bay netminder Dwayne Roloson.

Following a scoreless first period, Bruno Gervais put Tampa Bay on the board with 6:08 remaining in the second. The veteran defenseman fired a shot from the blue line that made it through traffic and eluded Ottawa netminder Craig Anderson for his second goal of the season.

Smith drew the Senators even less than three minutes later, redirecting a Jared Cowen point shot past Roloson.

Martin St. Louis vaulted the Lightning back in front at the 3:35 mark of the third period but the Senators tied things just before the halfway point of the session, with Daniel Alfredsson blasting a slap shot past Roloson.
