Devils 3, Maple Leafs 2 (OT)
David Clarkson's second goal of the game 2:40 into overtime lifted the New Jersey Devils to a 3-2 victory over the host Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday.
The Maple Leafs rallied from an early 2-0 deficit but couldn't contain Clarkson, whose first two-goal effort of the season helped the Devils halt a four-game losing streak.
The veteran forward took a pass from Dainius Zubrus at the edge of the slot and wired a shot past Maple Leafs netminder James Reimer after Toronto had been foiled on its own quality scoring chance moments earlier.
The Maple Leafs have won only one of their last seven home games dating back to the beginning of November.
The Devils struck first on a power play at 5:03. After Reimer was forced to make several good saves. Ilya Kovalchuk one-timed Petr Sykora's pass from the top of the right circle that glanced in off the right post.
Clarkson made good on the Devils' next man advantage less than four minutes later, gathering a Zach Parise feed in front with no defenseman near him and waiting out Reimer before tucking the puck past him.
The Leafs trimmed the deficit at 11:29 of the second period. Joffrey Lupul's centering pass deflected off Phil Kessel's right skate and eluded New Jersey netminder Martin Brodeur, giving Kessel his 17th goal of the season.
Matt Frattin drew the Maple Leafs even less than two minutes into the third, blowing past Devils rookie defenseman Adam Larsson before beating Brodeur with a hard wrist shot.
