Devils 3, Panthers 2 (SO)
Ilya Kovalchuk and Patrik Elias scored in the shootout and Martin Brodeur denied both Florida attempts as the New Jersey Devils rallied to their fourth win in five games with a 3-2 victory over the host Panthers on Tuesday.
Captain Zach Parise scored for his 12th point in nine contests, Elias also tallied and Kovalchuk notched a pair of assists for New Jersey, which rebound from a 2-0 deficit.
Kovalchuk opened the shootout by snapping the puck past Jose Theodore. After Brodeur stopped Tomas Fleischmann and Kris Versteeg, Elias ended the affair by beating Theodore with a snapshot through his legs.
Versteeg took advantage of a pair of turnovers to stake the Panthers to a 2-0 advantage before the Devils answered his second tally only 56 seconds later. Kovalchuk's centering feed found a cutting Elias, who directed the puck past Theodore.
Parise leveled the contest 7:40 into the third period. Defenseman Henrik Tallinder's rocket sailed wide of the net but the puck caromed to Parise, who directed it past Theodore for his 10th goal of the season.
Theodore turned aside 32 shots for Southeast Division-leading Florida, which matched a season high with its third consecutive loss.
