Panthers 3, Flames 2 (SO)
Stephen Weiss and Dmitry Kulikov scored in the shootout as the Florida Panthers snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over the visiting Calgary Flames Friday night.
Sean Bergenheim scored both goals in regulation for the Panthers, who played their 11th consecutive one-goal game at home.
Flames rookie Leland Irving, making his NHL debut, turned aside 39 shots and had stopped Florida's first two shootout attempts before Kulikov beat him to extend it to another round.
Jose Theodore had 24 saves and stymied Lee Stempniak in the fourth round of the shootout to send Calgary to its third straight one-goal defeat.
Shawn Matthias and Mikael Samuelsson assisted on both goals by Bergenheim as the Panthers improved to 2-4 in shootouts this season. Florida owns an NHL-worst 48 losses in that format.
Calgary's Olli Jokinen had a goal and an assist against his former teammates and Rene Bourque added a power-play tally – his fourth goal in four career games against Florida.
Panthers forward Jack Skille left the game late in the third period with an undisclosed injury.
