Sharks 3, Oilers 2

Patrick Marleau's goal early in the third period lifted the San Jose Sharks to their second straight win, a 3-2 triumph over the visiting Edmonton Oilers on Saturday.

A San Jose power play yielded the winning goal with 13:49 remaining. Joe Pavelski was denied on a wraparound attempt but the puck went straight to Marleau, who shoveled it into an open net for his 12th goal of the season.

Edmonton pressed for the equalizer in the final minute but couldn't convert, falling below the .500 mark for the first time all season.

San Jose took advantage of a rare 2-on-0 to open the scoring at 8:36 of the first period, with Martin Havlat converting a Michal Handzus pass for his second goal in as many games.

Edmonton responded with 2:44 remaining in the frame. Jordan Eberle gathered a Taylor Hall pass before undressing a pair of Sharks defensemen and deking out netminder Antti Niemi.

Ryan Jones gave Edmonton its first lead 5:28 into the second period, beating Niemi on a shorthanded breakaway after the Sharks coughed up the puck.

Joe Thornton drew San Jose even at 14:33, corralling a Marc-Edouard Vlasic feed and sliding a backhand shot past Edmonton goalie Nikolai Khabibulin.
