Avalanche 3, Flyers 2 (SO)

Captain Milan Hejduk, Matt Duchene and Ryan O’Reilly scored in the shootout as the Colorado Avalanche won their sixth straight home game with a 3-2 triumph over the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere, who was beaten on the Flyers' first two attempts in the shootout, was the recipient of a little luck as rookie Matt Read’s final attempt rang off the post. Giguere made 31 saves for his sixth win of the season.

With 18 seconds left in regulation, Daniel Briere wrapped the puck away from heavy traffic and fed Wayne Simmonds, who poked in his 10th goal of the season.

The Flyers opened the scoring as Scott Hartnell capitalized on a power play late in the opening period.

The Avalanche tied the game at 12:26 of the second period when Shane O’Brien’s pass found Gabriel Landeskog cutting across the top of the crease. The rookie slid the puck past Ilya Bryzgalov for his sixth goal on the season and first at home.

Colorado made it 2-1 with 44 seconds left in the middle frame when Brad Malone’s attempted pass back to the point hit off T.J. Galiardi and past a helpless Bryzgalov. Galiardi was credited with his fifth of the season, while Malone collected his first NHL point.
