Coyotes 4, Hurricanes 3
Lauri Korpikoski scored the game-winning goal and added an assist on the tying tally as the visiting Phoenix Coyotes rallied for a 4-3 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday.
Rostislav Klesla scored his first goal of the season and Cal O’Reilly and Ray Whitney added tallies for the Coyotes, who have won three of four.
The Hurricanes led 3-1 after Jiri Tlusty’s seventh tally with 7:45 left in the second period. Phoenix began its comeback just over a minute later as O’Reilly picked up a shot that had been blocked in the slot and wristed it high over Cam Ward’s shoulder.
The Coyotes tied it at the 4:20 mark of the third, when Korpikoski wrapped around the net and centered a pass to Klesla as he was falling to the ice.
Klesla sent a quick shot past Ward’s left side from the doorstep.
Korpikoski was the beneficiary of a similar play on the winning goal, taking a pass from defenseman Derek Morris after a wraparound and tapping it in from the doorstep with 9:12 left in the third.
Carolina outshot Phoenix 37-19, but Jason LaBarbera was up to the task with 34 saves.
