Sharks 7, Lightning 2

Logan Couture scored the final two of five first-period goals as the San Jose Sharks took a commanding lead and cruised to a 7-2 victory over the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday.

Patrick Marleau and defenseman Brent Burns finished with a goal and an assist apiece and Ryane Clowe set up two tallies as the Sharks extended their win streak to three games by registering their season-high in goals.

Benn Ferriero, who was just recalled from the minors, started the scoring 3:26 into the game on a rebound. Joe Pavelski capitalized on a power play at 4:51 and Andrew Desjardins scored at 6:21 to end the night of Lightning starting goalie Mathieu Garon.

Couture beat Garon’s replacement Dwayne Roloson at 13:13 off a nifty pass from Marleau and was first to rebound in front to score on the power play at 14:47.

Dominic Moore scored the last goal of the first period for the Lightning, who have lost eight of their last 11 games.

Martin St. Louis, who suffered facial and nasal fractures in a freak accident Dec. 8 at the morning skate, returned to the Lightning lineup after missing five games. He scored his 10th goal in the third period.
