Avalanche 2, Lightning 1 (OT)

Matt Duchene scored the winner 3:38 into overtime as the Colorado Avalanche edged the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 Friday for their fourth straight victory.

Duchene’s shot from the left of the goal went in off the inside of Lightning goalie Mathieu Garon’s left pad for his 12th goal.

Colorado won its eighth straight game at home to set a new franchise record since moving to Denver in 1995.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere 29 saves for his fourth straight victory.

The Lightning have points in three of their last four games, but lost for the ninth time in 12 outings.

Tampa Bay, which gave up 43 shots in a 7-2 loss at San Jose Wednesday, responded with a strong first period. The Lightning outshot the Avalanche 14-5 and took a 1-0 lead.

Defenseman Pavel Kubina’s low shot from the right circle got through Giguere at 18:09 of the first. Vincent Lecavalier and Marty St. Louis assisted on the goal. Kubina, Lecavalier and St. Louis were all on Tampa Bay’s roster the last time it won in Colorado on March 1, 2004.

The Avalanche answered with a solid second period to tie the game 1-1. Ryan O’Reilly found the rebound of a Shane O’Brien shot from the point and scored his eighth goal at 10:03.
