Capitals 4, Blue Jackets 2
Alex Ovechkin scored twice and defenseman Dennis Wideman added a goal and an assist as the Washington Capitals erupted for four goals in the third period en route to a 4-2 road triumph over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday.
Alexander Semin also scored and Tomas Vokoun made 35 saves for Washington, which extended its overall winning streak to three games while halting a three-game road skid.
With the Capitals trailing 2-0 after two periods, Ovechkin began the late outburst at 4:23 of the third when he beat Steve Mason from the left faceoff circle for his 15th goal of the season. Semin and Wideman tallied 28 seconds apart to complete a three-goal burst in a 2:53 span and put Washington ahead.
Ovechkin converted a power-play chance with just under eight minutes remaining, ripping a one-timer from the right circle past Mason. The superstar has registered six goals and three assists during his six-game points streak.
Rookie defenseman John Moore and Samuel Pahlsson scored for Columbus, which has lost four straight at Nationwide Arena and seven of eight both overall and at home.
