Avalanche 4, Ducks 2

Captain Milan Hejduk scored two goals and Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 18 saves against his former team to lead the Colorado Avalanche to a 4-2 victory over the host Anaheim Ducks on Saturday.

Defenseman Kyle Quincey and Chuck Kobasew added a goal apiece for the Avalanche, who have won seven of their last eight games.

The Ducks have lost six of their last seven games and fell to 6-20-6 since beginning the season 4-1-0.

Hejduk opened the scoring with his 10th goal at the 6:35 mark of the first period. He came up with the puck in a scrum in front of the net and tapped it past Jonas Hiller.

Colorado put it away in a span of 1:16 in the second period, when Quincey and Kobasew tallied to make it 3-0.

Hejduk’s second goal came on the power play early in the third after Anaheim was whistled for interference. Ryan O’Reilly faked a one-timer and shuffled a pass to Hejduk on the doorstep, where he knocked it into the open net.

The Ducks did manage to stay one point ahead of the last-place Columbus Blue Jackets in the Western Conference.
