Rangers 3, Panthers 2 (OT)
Marian Gaborik scored at the 3:29 mark of overtime to lead the surging New York Rangers to a 3-2 victory over the visiting Florida Panthers on Thursday.
Defenseman Anton Stralman added his first goal and Ryan Callahan scored on the power play for the Rangers, who have won three straight and eight of the last nine.
Fresh off a dramatic win in Monday’s Winter Classic in Philadelphia, Gaborik lifted New York to another victory over an Eastern Conference contender when he fired a slap shot from the left side, sneaking it past Scott Clemmensen for his 23rd tally.
The Panthers struck first on Marcel Goc’s wrister at the 4:16 mark of the first, but New York tied it before the end of the period.
Stralman took a feed from Ruslan Fedotenko and sent a wrister toward the net from the left point that got past a screened Clemmensen.
The teams traded tallies again in the third period, this time with New York taking the lead when Callahan tipped Brad Richards’ shot into the net on a power play.
Florida got that one back just 36 seconds later, tying it at the 5:00 mark of the period on Mike Santorelli’s snap shot from the slot.
