Jets 2, Sabres 1 (OT)
Defenseman Johnny Oduya scored 57 seconds into overtime as the Winnipeg Jets edged the host Buffalo Sabres 2-1 Saturday night.
Following an entertaining 60 minutes, Oduya ended things early in overtime on a sensational give-and-go with Evander Kane. The veteran skated to the edge of the right circle and wristed a shot past the glove of Buffalo netminder Jhonas Enroth as the Jets earned their first win of 2012.
The loss spoiled a personal milestone for Sabres captain Jason Pominville, who had an assist in his 500th career contest. He nearly won the game for Buffalo at the end of regulation.
A Sabres' power play yielded the game's opening goal 11:08 into the second period. Defenseman Tyler Myers redirected Pominville's centering pass from the edge of the crease past Winnipeg netminder Ondrej Pavelec for his first goal since returning from a wrist injury.
The Jets drew even with 4.2 seconds remaining in the period, as Blake Wheeler slid the puck behind Enroth with Winnipeg enjoying a two-man advantage.
Both teams had a handful of chances in a scoreless third period, but Pavelec and Enroth were up to the challenge, combining for 70 saves heading into extra time.
