Blues 3, Canadiens 0
Jaroslav Halak turned aside 19 shots to sting his former team as the visiting St. Louis Blues extended their winning streak to four games with a 3-0 triumph over the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night.
Halak, who was dealt to the Blues by Montreal at the end of the 2009-10 season, has allowed just one goal in two games against the Canadiens since the deal. The shutout was his second of the season and the 18th of his career.
Following a scoreless opening period, the Blues struck twice in a 5:07 span in the second period to take control.
Veteran Jason Arnott opened the scoring near the game's midway point, converting a chance from in close following a strong cut to the net by teammate Ryan Reaves. It was Arnott's second goal in as many games following a four-game pointless drought.
Captain David Backes extended the advantage with a shot from the circle that eluded a partially screened Carey Price.
Chris Stewart padded the lead with 7:04 remaining, firing a Backes feed past Price for his third goal in four games.
