Devils 2, Oilers 1 (OT)
Zach Parise scored a power-play goal at 1:06 of overtime as the New Jersey Devils handed the Edmonton Oilers their fourth straight loss with a 2-1 road victory on Wednesday.
Ilya Kovalchuk recorded his fourth consecutive two-point performance with a goal and an assist while Johan Hedberg made 22 saves for New Jersey, which improved to 2-1-0 on its four-game road trip.
With Edmonton defenseman Corey Potter in the penalty box for tripping, Patrik Elias made a perfect pass from below the right faceoff circle to Parise, who tapped the puck past Nikolai Khabibulin from the doorstep for his 15th goal of the season.
After a scoreless first period, New Jersey took the lead 8 1/2 minutes into the second during an Edmonton power play. Kovalchuk stole the puck from Potter at the right point and put a shot off the right post and into the net on a breakaway for his team-leading 17th goal of the season.
It was the league-high 11th shorthanded tally for the Devils, who also lead the league with just 12 man-advantage goals against.
Edmonton got even on the power play 8 1/2 minutes into the third when Ales Hemsky beat a screened Hedberg with a slap shot from just above the left faceoff circle.
Khabibulin stopped 23 shots for the Oilers, who have lost seven of their last eight games.
