P.A. Parenteau scored twice as the New York Islanders silenced host Washington 3-0 on Tuesday night, halting the Capitals' three-game winning streak.
Evgeni Nabokov turned aside 17 shots for his 51st career shutout and John Tavares extended his points streak to 10 games with a first-period goal to pace the Islanders.
Nabokov improved to 10-1-0 all-time against the Capitals.
Tavares opened the scoring 12:05 into the opening period, tapping home a Mark Streit slap pass from the edge of the crease with the Islanders enjoying a power play. Tavares has six goals and 11 assists over the course of the streak.
Parenteau doubled the advantage at 6:05 of the second period, firing home a Frans Nielsen pass from the slot after Nielsen forced a Washington turnover.
Parenteau capped his first career multi-goal game with an insurance marker 12:38 into the third, finishing off a three-way passing play on the man advantage.
