Red Wings 3, Stars 2 (SO)
Jiri Hudler scored the tying goal in regulation and tallied in the shootout as the Detroit Red Wings escaped with a 3-2 shootout victory over the host Dallas Stars on Tuesday.
Tomas Holmstrom added a goal and Ty Conklin made 25 saves in regulation and overtime as the Red Wings picked up their fourth straight win.
Pavel Datsyuk knocked it off the crossbar on Detroit’s first shootout attempt, but Hudler picked him up, slowing down in front of the net and faking out Richard Bachman on the left side.
Conklin stopped Loui Eriksson, Michael Ryder and Trevor Daley to seal the win – his first in a shootout.
Detroit struck first on Holmstrom’s first even-strength goal and eighth overall at the 6:41 mark of the first.
Conklin, making a rare start in place of Jimmy Howard, got beat on a tipped puck by Brenden Morrow on the power play to tie it at 1-1 and had Eriksson’s tip of a rebound scrape just past his outstretched left leg with 3:32 left in the first.
Hudler tied it up at the 1:43 mark of the second when he sent a backhanded centering pass into the slot that deflected off the skate of Dallas defenseman Alex Goligoski and past Bachman.
