Oilers 2, Sharks 1 (SO)
Devan Dubnyk stopped 44 shots in regulation and overtime and three more in the shootout as the Edmonton Oilers earned a 2-1 victory over the visiting San Jose Sharks on Monday.
Taylor Hall and Sam Gagner tallied in the shootout and Jordan Eberle picked up the lone regulation goal for the Oilers, who snapped a three-game slide and won for only the second time in their last 10 games.
Dubnyk was under pressure all night, taking on nine shots from Dan Boyle alone. The 25-year old netminder saved his best for last in the shootout, stopping Logan Couture in the fourth round to clinch the win.
Gagner got Edmonton an edge when he beat Thomas Greiss in the second round and Hall snuck a back-handed shot around Greiss in the fourth round.
Couture tied it 1-1 with a power-play goal the 6:23 mark of the third period. Boyle sent a hard pass from the point and Couture got a stick down in front of the puck on the doorstep, knocking it up over Dubnyk’s shoulder to tie it 1-1.
Eberle gave the Oilers a 1-0 lead at 6:50 of the second period when he caught a long rebound in the left face-off circle and wristed his 18th goal past Greiss.
