Coyotes 3, Senators 2
Mike Smith made 32 saves and Radim Vrbata scored his 23rd goal as the Phoenix Coyotes snapped a three-game slide with a 3-2 victory over the visiting Ottawa Senators on Tuesday.
Shane Doan added his 15th tally and Gilbert Brule scored his third for the Coyotes, who won for only the third time in 11 games this month.
After winning 10 of their previous 12 games, the Senators limp into the All-Star break having dropped three straight.
Vrbata got credit for the game-winner 1:30 into the third when he won a scrum in front of the net and slipped a wrist shot past Craig Anderson to make it 3-1.
Ottawa made it a one-goal game 14 seconds later when Chris Neil beat a pair of defenders up the ice but Smith was able to hold on the rest of the way.
Brule got the Coyotes on the board late in the first when he grabbed a bouncing puck off the stick of teammate Mikkel Boedker and dumped it into the open net.
Phoenix made it 2-0 when Doan put in an easy rebound off Lauri Korpikoski’s shot with 3:52 left in the second.
Daniel Alfredsson scored his 17th goal for the Senators 91 seconds later.
