Red Wings 3, Flames 1

Jiri Hudler's third-period game-winner lifted the red-hot Detroit Red Wings to a 3-1 triumph over the host Calgary Flames on Tuesday.

Hudler struck with 8:31 remaining, taking a Valtteri Filppula pass off the side of the Calgary goal and firing a shot past Calgary netminder Miikka Kiprusoff for his fourth goal in six games.

Drew Miller added a late insurance tally for the Red Wings, who have won eight straight games when scoring two goals or fewer in their previous contest. Detroit has eight wins in its last nine games overall.

Cory Emmerton opened the scoring 5:57 into the game, banging a rebound of Justin Abdelkader's shot past Kiprusoff.

Michael Cammalleri evened things just under two minutes into the second period, batting a floating puck past Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard with the Flames enjoying a power play.

The teams honored former coach Brad McCrimmon prior to the game. McCrimmon, who served as an assistant with both clubs, was killed in a plane crash that claimed the entire roster of the Kontinental Hockey League's Lokomotiv Yaroslavl last September in Russia.
