Rangers 1, Sabres 0 (SO)

Henrik Lundqvist made 34 saves for his sixth shutout of the season and Ryan Callahan converted the winner in the fifth round of the shootout as the visiting New York Rangers defeated the Buffalo Sabres 1-0 on Wednesday.

Lundqvist made three saves in the shootout and earned his 41st career shutout as the Rangers extended their lead in the Eastern Conference to three points. Marian Gaborik also scored in the shootout for New York.

Ryan Miller made 29 saves for Buffalo to gain his 24th career shutout and second of the season. Jason Pominville converted in the shootout for the Sabres.

New York killed off five Buffalo power plays, including one that extended 22 seconds into overtime. The Rangers failed on their two power-play chances, including a full two minutes in overtime. They have scored just twice with the man advantage since Christmas.

Buffalo had 41 seconds of a 5-on-3 power play in the first period, but came up empty. The Rangers have only allowed one goal in seven chances when down two men this season.

Buffalo’s second-leading scorer Thomas Vanek missed the game with an upper-body injury. The Sabres recalled 2009 first-round pick Zack Kassian and inserted him into the lineup in Vanek's place.
