Devils 5, Canadiens 3
Zach Parise and David Clarkson had two goals apiece as the New Jersey Devils overcame a pair of two-goal deficits to defeat the visiting Montreal Canadiens 5-3 on Thursday.
Parise provided the game-winner when he snapped a shot past Carey Price with 2:44 remaining in the third period.
Ilya Kovalchuk, Dainius Zubrus and Clarkson each had three points for the Devils.
Clarkson added an empty-net goal with 32 seconds left to seal the victory. Martin Brodeur made 27 saves to earn his 42nd career victory against Montreal.
New Jersey trailed 3-1 in the second period before Clarkson redirected his 18th goal of the season past Price on the power play to cut the Montreal lead to 3-2.
Alexei Ponikarovsky’s wrister from the circle was tipped in by Zubrus to tie the game 3-3 early in the third period.
Montreal jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by David Desharnais and Andrei Kostitsyn. Mathieu Darche added a shorthanded marker for the Habs in the second period to make it 3-1.
Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban unleashed a massive body check on rookie Adam Larsson with six minutes remaining in the third period. Larsson had to be helped off the ice and to the dressing room and didn’t return to the game.
