Panthers 3, Devils 1
Scott Clemmensen turned aside 27 shots to remain unbeaten against his former team and the Florida Panthers picked up a rare road win by beating the New Jersey Devils 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Sean Bergenheim, Kris Versteeg and Mikael Samuelsson scored goals to help the Panthers win for just the second time in their last 12 road games (2-6-4) and take over sole possession of first place in the Southeast Division.
Clemmensen allowed only a first-period goal by Steve Bernier to improve to 4-0-0 lifetime against New Jersey.
Martin Brodeur made 17 saves and had his four-game winning streak snapped for the Devils, who suffered their first regulation loss in the last eight games (5-1-2).
Versteeg scored the game-winner at 7:43 of the second period, scooping up a loose puck in the slot for his 21st goal - matching last season's total and putting him one shy of his career high.
Bernier put the Devils ahead with his first goal in 366 days at 1:39 of the first period, slipping a pass between Clemmensen's pads.
The Panthers leveled it at the 15-minute mark on the power play when Bergenheim deflected Erik Gudbranson's shot from the point. Samuelsson added an empty-netter with 25 seconds to play.
Florida defenseman Jason Garrison left the game with a lower-body injury and did not return.
