Blues 3, Avalanche 2 (OT)
Defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo scored 3:18 into overtime as the St. Louis Blues skated to a 3-2 home triumph over the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday.
David Perron netted a pair of power-play goals and T.J. Oshie notched two assists for St. Louis, which has collected points in a franchise-best 18 straight home games (15-0-3) and improved to 23-3-4 at Scottrade Center this season. The Blues moved to within three points of the Western Conference-leading Detroit Red Wings.
All-Star Brian Elliott turned aside 17 shots to improve to 10-1-2 at home this season.
In overtime, Colaiacovo deflected Patrik Berglund's shot past Semyon Varlamov for his second goal of the season. Varlamov, who was making his first start since Jan. 31, finished with a career-high 41 saves.
Former Blue Erik Johnson ended a 22-game goal-scoring drought and fellow defenseman Shane O'Brien also tallied for Colorado, which saw its two-game winning streak come to an end.
Despite owning the NHL's third-worst power play entering Saturday's action, St. Louis found success with the man advantage as Perron scored twice in a span of 4:07 in the first period.
Johnson then rifled a shot from the point to level the contest with 51 seconds left in session for a power-play goal.
