Senators 4, Lightning 0
Jason Spezza recorded a hat trick and Craig Anderson made 28 saves for his 18th career shutout as the visiting Ottawa Senators defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-0 on Tuesday.
Spezza, who has four career hat tricks, also added an assist to give him five goals and five assists in the last four games.
Anderson has been in net for the Senators in all three games against Tampa Bay this season - all victories, allowing only three goals to up his record to 6-1-2 lifetime against the Lightning with three shutouts.
Defenseman Erik Karlsson scored the first goal with a high wrist shot from the right point 1:04 into the game and added an assist. Bobby Butler registered a pair of assists for Ottawa, which won for only the second time in 10 games.
Ottawa extended its lead to 2-0 with 3:38 remaining in the second period as Spezza’s shot on the power play eluded Lightning goaltender Mathieu Garon with Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson hovering over him.
Spezza scored at 12:37 of the third off a pass from Butler. Garon had stopped Kyle Turris on a penalty shot 1:01 earlier. Spezza added an empty-netter.
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman attended the game.
