CANUCKS 2, DEVILS 1: Defenseman Aaron Rome scored his first goal in 29 games and Cory Schneider turned aside 30 shots as visiting Vancouver secured its NHL-leading 84th point by downing New Jersey.
Mason Raymond also tallied for the Canucks, who improved to 12-1-2 in their last 15 contests to move past the idle Detroit Red Wings in the race for the Presidents' Trophy.
David Clarkson netted his 24th goal of the season and Martin Brodeur stopped 14 shots for the Devils, who fell to 9-2-1 since the All-Star break.
Prior to the game, New Jersey acquired defenseman Marek Zidlicky from the Minnesota Wild for blue-liner Kurtis Foster and forwards Nick Palmieri and Stephane Veilleux. The Devils also included a second-round pick in 2012 and a conditional choice in 2013 in the deal.
Rome opened the scoring at 8:44 of the first period after cleaning up a loose puck following fellow defenseman Chris Tanev's shot. The tally was Rome's fourth of the season.
Raymond doubled the advantage at 2:07 of the second period after collecting a backhanded feed from David Booth and wristing a shot from the right faceoff circle past Brodeur. The shot was Vancouver's first since Rome's goal.
Clarkson's tally - which went in off his skate - was upheld by video review, but the Devils were unable to solve Schneider again. With the win, the netminder improved to 10-3-0 on the road this season.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Prior to the game, New Jersey honored Hall of Fame broadcaster Mike "Doc" Emrick. Emrick resigned last season after serving as the team's long-time broadcaster. He works only network games now. ... The Canucks improved to 4-0-0 this season when Rome scores a goal.
