OILERS 5, JETS 3: Lennart Petrell recorded a goal and an assist in the third period as visiting Edmonton came from behind to end Winnipeg’s six-game points streak on Monday.
The Oilers scored four unanswered goals in the third en route to their third win in four games. The Jets had gone 4-0-2 in their previous six games.
Ryan Jones tied the game 2-2 on the power play 1:54 into the third period before Petrell scored his first goal since Dec. 22 just 35 seconds later after a Winnipeg turnover. Taylor Hall made it 4-2 at 9:24 with help from an assist and a screen by Petrell.
Kyle Wellwood gave Winnipeg the lead at 15:45 of the second period, sweeping home a cross-crease pass from Nik Antropov on the power play. Defenseman Ryan Whitney tied the game 1-1 for the Oilers on a screen shot from the point on the power play at 18:13.
Defenseman Dustin Byfuglien stole the puck from Jeff Petry on a 4-on-4 situation and fed Alex Burmistrov to give the Jets a 2-1 lead with 32.7 seconds left in the second period.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Edmonton’s Ryan Smyth assisted on the fifth goal to register his 800th career point. … Winnipeg traded defenseman Johnny Oduya to Chicago for a pair of draft picks and claimed defenseman Grant Clitsome off waivers from Columbus earlier in the day, but he did not play. … Byfuglien (two assists) and Evander Kane extended their point streaks to seven games. … Oilers goaltender Devan Dubnyk earned his first career assist on Whitney’s goal.
