Penguins 4, Stars 3 (SO)
PENGUINS 4, STARS 3 (SO): Pascal Dupuis scored in the fourth round of the shootout as visiting Pittsburgh won its fourth in a row and ended Dallas' four-game winning streak.
All was not rosy for the Penguins, however, as defenseman Kris Letang exited the contest midway through the first period after he was hit in the head by Eric Nystrom. Letang, who did not return to the game, missed 21 contests earlier in the season with a concussion.
Craig Adams and Chris Kunitz scored 39 seconds apart early in the third period and Steve Sullivan also tallied to extend his point streak to six games for Pittsburgh.
After the teams scored in both the first and third rounds of the shootout, Dupuis skated in and wristed a shot over Kari Lehtonen's right pad.
Michael Ryder, who netted his team-leading 26th goal of the season earlier in the third period, was unable to extend the contest after he shot wide of the net.
All-Star Jamie Benn also scored in his return from a six-game absence with a leg injury for Dallas, which moved past idle Colorado and Los Angeles into sole possession of seventh place in the Western Conference.
After Adams and Kunitz put Dallas on its heels with a pair of deflections for goals early in the third period, Ryder leveled the contest just over three minutes later. Ryder was able to tap an elevated cross-crease feed from Loui Eriksson past Marc-Andre Fleury to knot the game at 3-3.
