Panthers 2, Flyers 1

PANTHERS 2, FLYERS 1: Stephen Weiss and Sean Bergenheim tallied to lead visiting Florida to its fifth straight win.

The Panthers killed off four straight power plays in the first period and took advantage of a lucky bounce in the second frame to snap the Flyers’ five-game home winning streak.

Philadelphia dominated for much of the game, limiting Florida to just 13 shots. Scott Clemmensen was brilliant in goal, stopping 35 shots to earn his 12th win and help the Panthers expand their lead in the Southeast to five points over the Washington Capitals.

After Weiss netted his 18th goal to make it 1-0, Bergenheim capitalized on a fortuitous bounce on the power play to put Florida up 2-0 with his 17th marker in the second period. Brian Campbell assisted on both goals.

Eric Wellwood cut the lead in half 1:31 later when his centering pass deflected off Panthers’ defenseman Ed Jovanovski and past Clemmensen. The Flyers pulled Ilya Bryzgalov late in the third period for the extra attacker, but couldn’t muster the equalizer.
