RANGERS 4, MAPLE LEAFS 3 (SO): All-Star Marian Gaborik had a pair of goals and captain Ryan Callahan scored the game-winner in the third round of the shootout as visiting New York increased its lead to three points over the Pittsburgh Penguins for the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
With the shootout tied at 1-1, Callahan beat Jonas Gustavsson to hand the Maple Leafs a ninth straight loss at home. Brad Richards also scored in the second round and had two assists.
All-Star Phil Kessel had a glorious chance to win the game for Toronto on a partial break in overtime, but he fired wide on Henrik Lundvist. The All-Star netminder made 22 saves for his 35th win.
Gaborik netted his second marker of the game at 4:18 of the third period to put the Rangers up 3-2, but Tim Connolly answered for Toronto just 19 seconds later to level the contest and send it to overtime.
Both teams were playing the second half of a back-to-back.
