Canucks 1, Kings 0

CANUCKS 1, KINGS 0:
Roberto Luongo turned aside all 36 shots he faced to make Manny Malhotra's first-period goal stand up as host Vancouver moved to within two points of idle St. Louis in its bid to repeat as a Presidents' Trophy winner.

Luongo preserved his fourth shutout and 59th career by stopping 12 shots in the second period and 15 in the third. The veteran netminder highlighted the performance by denying Anze Kopitar's deflection late in the third.

All-Star Jonathan Quick finished with 24 saves for the Kings, who have been shut out 10 times this season. Los Angeles, which has dropped two straight after its season-high six-game winning streak, failed to move into first place in the Pacific Division after Dallas dropped a 5-4 decision to Calgary earlier on Monday.

Malhotra opened the scoring 3:05 into the first period. Malhotra accepted a feed from Maxim Lapierre and wired a shot from the left faceoff circle which beat Quick just under the crossbar. The tally was Malhotra's seventh - and first since Feb. 18.

Lapierre and Alexander Edler recorded assists for the Canucks, who improved to 6-0-2 in their last eight home games versus the Kings.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
