Coyotes 2, Canucks 1 (SO)
COYOTES 2, CANUCKS 1 (SO): Ray Whitney tied the game in the third period and scored the decisive goal in the shootout as Phoenix edged Vancouver for its seventh straight home victory.
Mike Smith made 39 saves while allowing fewer than two goals for the eighth time during his 11-game winning streak. The Pacific Division-leading Coyotes improved to 11-0-1 in February.
Canucks All-Star defenseman Alex Edler's power-play goal in the first period held up until midway through the third, when Whitney netted the equalizer.
Cory Schneider stopped All-Star defenseman Keith Yandle's blast from the red line, but Whitney outraced a defender for the rebound and backhanded it between the goaltender's pads to extend his points streak to six games.
Following a scoreless overtime, Whitney beat Schneider high to the glove side on the Coyotes' first shootout attempt. Smith denied Edler and Mason Raymond before Mikkel Boedker clinched the win with his third goal in four shootout chances this season.
Just 10 seconds after Phoenix defenseman Michal Rozsival was sent off for hooking at 14:46 of the first, Vancouver cashed in to take the lead. Edler unleashed a shot from along the right-wing boards that deflected off two defenders before getting past Smith.
Schneider stopped 34 shots for the Canucks, who concluded a 3-1-2 road trip.
