Michael Ryder scored both goals and Kari Lehtonen made 39 saves as Dallas spoiled Detroit’s home opener.
Cody Eakin recorded two assists while captain Brenden Morrow and Ray Whitney added one apiece for the Stars, who secured their first road win after being shut out at Minnesota on Sunday.
Rookie Damien Brunner scored on a wrist shot with four seconds remaining in the game to spoil Lehtonen's shutout opportunity. Jimmy Howard made 30 saves for the Red Wings.
Dallas moved Eakin up to center a line with Whitney and Ryder and it paid dividends early when Eakin found Ryder in the high slot 5:41 into the first period. Ryder blasted a slap shot past Howard for his first goal.
The trio combined on the second goal as well as Ryder sent a slap shot into the lower left corner of the net at 5:34 of the third.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Red Wings signed veteran D Kent Huskins to a one-year contract earlier Tuesday. He had 15:16 of ice time during 21 shifts. … Detroit RW Todd Bertuzzi (flu) and C Darren Helm (back) have yet to play. Bertuzzi is expected back by Friday. … Lehtonen has made 76 saves in his two starts.
