Blackhawks 3, Bruins 1

Patrick Kane scored twice and Corey Crawford turned aside 24 shots as host Chicago won Game 5 to move one victory away from securing its second Stanley Cup championship in four years.

Captain Jonathan Toews notched a pair of assists before remaining on the bench for the entire third period with an upper-body injury. Dave Bolland added an empty-net goal for the Presidents' Trophy-winning Blackhawks, who will visit Boston for Game 6 on Monday. Chicago needed six games to upend Philadelphia and win the Stanley Cup in 2010.

Tuukka Rask finished with 29 saves for the Bruins, who saw Patrice Bergeron exit the contest with an undisclosed injury. The King Clancy Memorial Trophy recipient logged just two shifts totaling 49 seconds in the second period before being taken from the United Center via ambulance to a local hospital for observation.

After the Blackhawks slugged their way to a 6-5 overtime victory in Game 4, the teams skated for nearly 17 1/2 minutes on Saturday before Kane opened the scoring. Kane's diagonal feed from the right corner found defenseman Johnny Oduya, who unleashed a blast from the upper edge of the left faceoff circle that shattered the stick of Bruins blue-liner Dennis Seidenberg. The shot still had enough on it to get toward the net, and Kane alertly shifted from forehand to backhand before tucking the puck inside the near post.

Kane netted his second of the contest and seventh in as many games at 5:13 of the second period. Bryan Bickell's bid was denied at the left post by Rask, but the former neatly set up Kane on the doorstep for a brilliant backhand shot that went under the crossbar.

After being beaten five times to the glove side in Wednesday's loss, Crawford kept the Bruins at bay until 3:40 of the third period. Stationed behind the net, David Krejci set up captain Zdeno Chara's one-timer from the left faceoff dot that sailed past Crawford's glove.
