Alex Killorn flipped home a backhander after a scramble in front of the net 1:50 into overtime as visiting Tampa Bay came from behind to keep Buffalo winless.
Tyler Johnson scored in the second period and Teddy Purcell tied it at 2-2 in the third with a power-play goal for the Lightning, who finished its season-opening road trip at 2-1-0. Ben Bishop made 21 saves for Tampa Bay.
Defenseman Jamie McBain and Cody Hodgson each recorded a goal and an assist on the power play for Buffalo, which gained its first point after three losses. Thomas Vanek set up both goals for the Sabres, who received a 31-save performance from Jhonas Enroth
Buffalo took the lead 11:09 into the second period, when Vanek deflected McBain’s shot to the left of the net, where Hodgson flipped it past Bishop. Johnson answered 2:26 later, roofing a shot from the right faceoff circle after a pass from defenseman Victor Hedman that went off a defender's stick.
The Sabres re-established the lead when McBain beat Bishop through the screen from the high slot with 1:26 left in the second. The Lightning tied it while on the power play 5:43 into the third as Purcell swept a shot under Enroth from close range following a pass from Ryan Malone.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Buffalo G Ryan Miller, who missed Saturday’s game in Pittsburgh with a lower-body injury, dressed as the backup to Enroth. … Tampa Bay captain Martin St. Louis' assist on Purcell’s goal gave him 915 career points, tying him with D Bobby Orr for 94th place on the all-time list. … The Sabres went 2-for-4 on the power play after failing on all 13 attempts with the man advantage in their first three contests.
