Predators 3, Jets 1
Carter Hutton turned aside 38 shots in his second career start and Eric Nystrom's short-handed tally ignited a three-goal second period as visiting Nashville improved to 5-1-1 in its last seven games.
Patric Hornqvist recorded his team-leading third goal and Matt Cullen also scored for the Predators, who are 7-1-2 in their last 10 meetings with the Winnipeg/Atlanta franchise.
Making his third career appearance and second this season, the 27-year-old Hutton saw his shutout bid end at 9:13 of the third period, when Evander Kane poked home a loose puck. The tally was the fourth in four games and team-leading fifth of the season for Kane, who unleashed 10 shots on goal.
After the teams skated to a scoreless first period, Matt Hendricks was whistled for tripping just 10 seconds into the middle session. With the Jets on the power play, defenseman Dustin Byfuglien failed to move the puck and Nystrom took advantage by blasting a shot past Ondrej Pavelec (23 saves) at the 20-second mark.
Hornqvist doubled the advantage as his sharp-angle shot caromed off the leg of blue-liner Zach Bogosian and into the net at 12:07. Cullen capped his team's scoring just 2:50 later as Nashville sent Winnipeg to its fifth loss in seven games.
